Alternate Game Rules

For games where a few rule changes makes all the difference!

Monopoly

Game Summary:

Travel around the board purchasing properties which increase profit potential. Aquire all properties of a particular color and build houses and hotels to earn more money.

Goal of Changes:

Everyone except the winner lose by way of a slow painful death, and sometimes not so slow. These rule changes allow all players to work towards being successful whether they win or not.

Rule Changes:

All rules remain the same except those explicitly addressed below.

Original Alternate
Game ends when one player has bankrupted all other players, or they simply give up. The "last man standing" wins. Game ends after a selected time period plus one more pass of GO by each player.

Once the game is complete, each player tallys their property value, house/hotel value, and cash. House/hotel value is based on what the player paid to build them. Property values are based on the stated property value, not on how much the player paid for them.

The player with the greatest total net worth wins.
When one player lands on another players property, the player must pay the property owner the rent listed on the property card. Rather than the player paying the property owner, the bank pays the property owner.

If the property owner lands on their own property they pay maintanence fees. If they have a hotel or houses on the property they pay the rent of one less house than the property has. Otherwise they pay the basic rent.

Rather than being completely at the mercy of others, this allows a player to be in control of their own risk and reward potential.
Start with cash and no properties. To speed the game up, distribute about half the properties. When distributing properties, pick the properties that most fairly and evenly distribute value.

2 Player: Each player starts with 1 property of each color except brown and dark blue. Notice that of the three in each color, two are the same value. These are the ones that should be distributed.
